When decorating a shelf, countertop, or fireplace mantle, it’s always nice to have personal and aesthetically pleasing items on display like vases, picture frames, small sculptures, etc. It can be a slippery slope, however, to over-doing it and making a space look too cluttered.

Some patterns and shapes can inadvertently overpower areas, if they’re placed amongst even one other object sometimes.
