In the book A Home for the Soul (awesome book, but old and hard to find) it notes that a sleeping space is all about sleep, relaxation, and romance. It’s not a second office, it’s not a catch all for junk, it’s not a hobby room. You’ll sleep better when your environment is chill, you’ll feel more romantic if you’re so inclined, and you’ll wake up feeling refreshed because you’re looking at a peaceful setting vs. massive clutter.
Following are some components that can help you create a soothing and peaceful bedroom.

- Go for calm with a platform bed like the Prepac MBD-5600 Sonoma Collection Double/Full Platform Bed-Maple. This bed has no cluttering headboard, and comes with a contemporary maple finish slat support system which eliminates the need for a box spring. Solid wood slats distribute body weight evenly and minimize the amount of motion transfer for a restful sleep. There’s extra storage with the six large drawers positioned below the bed to keep stuff out of sight.
- Pick lighting that’s clutter free such as ceiling lighting. The Kichler Wilton Three Light Pendant in Carre Bronze has plenty of attention to detail, and is not overly stated. Intricate scrollwork and a rich Carre Bronze Finish accented by Antique Barley Glass in a classic tulip shape make this a calming lighting choice.
- Stay away from bold color choices in bedding and go with something calm like the Sausalito Stripe Organic Duvet Cover and sham … since it’s organic, you’re air will be cleaner, and your dreams free from pesticides too.
- Surround yourself with soothing scents like Vanilla & Acorn or Lavender & Lemongrass via soy candles which are a greener and healthier choice than traditional wax based candles.
Do you sleep better when your bedroom has calm decor?
