The Winners of the first annual 2011 Giftee Awards have been announced! The initial nominations were narrowed down by a panelist of expert gift-giving judges (including our very own Marie Masters) and then the winners were selected by the public. The categories include “Most Wacky Gift”, “Best Gifts under $25”, and “Most Romantic Gift” among [...]
This holiday weekend, why not reinvent a classic childhood treat for your adult taste buds: the popsicle. Sure, you might not have had one since the sixth grade (and the memory might be tainted by the resulting super-sticky ring it left around your mouth), but believe us when we tell you this dessert doesn’t have to be for a PG-13 audience.
Summer conjures up a variety of scents and emotions from childhood: sleeping in past 11 o’clock, picking berries, the smell of fresh-cut grass, barbeques with friends, playing in the back yard sprinkler, and of course a freshly baked pie. Well, perhaps today you can’t sleep in past 11 o’clock, and we definitely don’t have a backyard, but we sure as heck can make a delicious summer pie.
People are often intimidated by making their own sangria, thinking it’s strictly the territory of restaurants and Tuscany residents, when in fact it’s pretty much the same as making an alcoholic smoothie that you don’t have to blend.
Nothing beats the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the house, but if you’re not inclined to spend six hours of the day chained to the rising dough, a bread maker will be your new best friend.
Salt & pepper shakers are necessities. They are a permanent fixture on almost every kitchen counter top or dining room table. For years, we used the generic glass shakers with silver tops and hid them in our cupboard, only letting them see the light of day when it was absolutely necessary. But this week, we decided that it was time to let our salt & pepper shakers take center stage and become the focal point of our dining room table.
Every time we go into the kitchen to make something lately, we find it necessary to use at least one piece of Zak Designs kitchenware. Not because it’s functional, stylish and compact (it is) but because it’s just so darn…fun. Zak has been around since the seventies, making everything from kid’s character-themed sippy cups to a full line of grown-up, playful products.
Ah, gadgetry. We bet you didn’t realize how much you were over-exerting yourself reaching for that high paper towel holder over the sink, but guess what: you totally were.
We love the opportunity to talk about things that are both pink AND for a good cause. Few kitchen tools can beat a hand mixer in the convenience department, so in that respect its very invention is a little bit like a charitable donation to over-stressed cooks the world over. But this particular electric mixer, part of KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure series, goes beyond even that: for every sale, KitchenAid donates $8 to the Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation. Your cookies just got a whole lot more meaningful, eh?
Someday we hope to live in a world where breakfast is served at every meal of the day–and no, Denny’s doesn’t quite fit the bill. If it were socially acceptable to eat scrambled eggs, toast, orange juice and french toast all day long (forget the health risks), we definitely would.
