Red. It represents passion, energy, warmth and comfort. It raises our heart rate. It gives us confidence. It draws our attention (think fire trucks). And, when used correctly, it is the perfect accent color for a room. Red adds drama and excitement to a space, and can look striking when paired with a mostly muted color scheme. There are many, many different shades of red.
Salt & pepper shakers are necessities. They are a permanent fixture on almost every kitchen counter top or dining room table. For years, we used the generic glass shakers with silver tops and hid them in our cupboard, only letting them see the light of day when it was absolutely necessary. But this week, we decided that it was time to let our salt & pepper shakers take center stage and become the focal point of our dining room table.
There’s something very warm and personal about decorating with once-functional objects. We think that treating mundane, ordinary objects from everyday life with reverence–and even going so far as to display them in your home–can be way more powerful than, say, the cute drawing you found on Etsy (or not–maybe it’s the best drawing ever?).
We find ombre rugs well suited to dwellings with a lot of clean lines and contemporary furniture, although mixing in a few well-chosen vintage pieces could add character to a living room featuring a statement ombre piece.
Brooklynites are no strangers to rustic apartment elements. If it weren’t for those pesky frontiersmen in the 1800’s, it’s highly likely that our fine borough would be credited with the very invention of “antler” accents.R
